Gus Hansen is very well known for his unorthodox, but successful style and his fun loving personality.  He is a huge fan favourite and because of this he has been featured on many televised poker shows over the years.  Gus has had a lot of poker tournament success and has accumulated over $6,000,000 in career winnings.  He has won three World Poker Tour championships, but has yet to win a WSOP bracelet.  Gus is often considered the best player in the world to have never won a World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

As a youngster Gus was very competitive and played a variety of sports including tennis and soccer.  When he wasn’t in school, Gus would attend a summer camp, and this is where he really learned how to play cards.  Like many poker pros Gus has always loved numbers and has played backgammon competitively.

After his mandatory stint in the Danish army, Gus moved back to the USA to try his luck in the 1996 WSOP.  He did not fare well and was forced to realize that he needed to improve his game.  It was six years later, in 2002 that Gus broke onto the poker scene.  He won two World Poker Tour titles that year and finished third in another WPT tournament.  The other big win of Gus Hansen’s career came in ’07 when he won the Aussie Million main event and took hom $1.5 Million.  Gus was a big underdog going into the heads up stages of the tournament, but in typical Gus fashion, he caught some cards and was able to pull off the upset.

Gus is also a high stake cash game player.  He has played in the big game at the Bellagio on many occasions and he is not ashamed to admit that more often than not he came away a loser.  Online he also plays the biggest stakes available on Full Tilt Poker against many of the best poker players in the world.  A lot of the high stake poker pros consider Gus an easy target, but so far this year he’s been holding his own and he is actually in the black.

Gus is a guy you just have to love.  Even if he goes broke playing high stake poker, he will still be fine because he has built up such a fan base and following that his fame can earn him money if his poker playing doesn’t.
