Chris Ferguson is a very successful tournament player who has won around $8,000,000 from live tournaments in his career. Ferguson’s unique appearance has garnered him a lot of exposure over the years. His long hair and scruffy face have also earned him the nickname “Jesus” in the poker community. Of course Ferguson’s tremendous tournament success has also played a part in his rise to fame.
Chris grew up in a math oriented family and after high school he went on to UCLA to study computer science. Ferguson was at UCLA for many years earning his Ph.D. and in through these years Ferguson developed an extremely adept mathematical mind. This knowledge of mathematics has helped him tremendously at the poker table, so much so that Ferguson feels that he can play with the best players in the game without giving up an edge because he can simply play the basic odds.
Ferguson began his professional poker career in 1995, but it was in 2000 that he made his big splash onto the scene. At the WSOP Ferguson won two World Series of Poker bracelets and one of these was from the biggest tournament of the year, the main event. Ferguson then went on to win another bracelet the following year and another two in 2003. Ferguson’s total is still stuck at five, but there could easily be another win in the future. Ferguson has also cashed at the WSOP 59 times, which is the 3rd most out of any player of all time. A few more years at the WSOP and Ferguson may very well hold this title.
Ferguson can often be found throwing playing cards through fruits and vegetables and this skill, along with his calm, straight forward personality have made Ferguson a favourite of poker players around the world. Ferguson is strictly a tournament player so you will be hard pressed to find him playing at the Full Tilt Poker high stake cash games, but as a full member of Team Full Tilt you can often find Ferguson playing in the biggest tournaments the poker room has to offer.
