Allen Cunningham has been one of the most consistent and successful live tournament pros of the last decade. He has amassed around $8,000,000 in career tournament winnings and was recently voted the best poker player under the age of 35 by his peers.
Cunningham grew up playing poker and other card games with his family members and quickly become the hotshot defeating anyone who would dare compete. While attending UCLA, Cunningham really took an interest in the game and he would spend most of his time away from the classroom at the local Indian casino improving his game and making a few bucks. After a few low stake tournament wins and consistently beating the $1/$2 tables, Cunningham was able to make the jump to $10/$20 cash game stakes and was able to really start raking in the dough.
Cunningham started playing some more major tournaments in when he turned 21, but it was the Legends of Poker tournament series at the Bicycle Casino in 1999 that really launched Cunningham’s career. He managed to make six final tables and win two of them earning a nice chunk of cash and gaining quite a bit of attention. Two years later Cunningham won his first World Series of Poker bracelet in the $5,000 buy-in seven card stud tourney. The year after that Cunningham proved his bracelet win was no fluke winning another and once again cashing four times.
Cunningham now has five World Series of Poker bracelets and at his age there are likely more to come. Allen’s biggest cash was not a tourney he won. Cunningham came fourth to Jamie Gold in 2006 winning $3,600,000.
Allen is a very calm and collected poker player, who is probably not made for tv, but his success has brought him fortune as well as fame because he has been featured on many poker television shows including Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker and soon to be Face the Ace. Cunningham’s quiet demeanour has likely made him one of the lesser known members of Full Titl Poker, but he definitely has one of the best poker resumes.
