FullTilt Hosts FTOPS X Satellite Challenge

October 28, 2008

As we reported in an earlier posting, the time is upon us once again for Full Tilt Poker’s awesome 25-event online poker series (the Full Tilt Online Poker Series, to be exact). And we mentioned that, besides paying the buy-ins for your seats, you could win seats in the various events through satellite qualifiers being offered by Full Tilt.

They’re calling it the FTOPS X Satellite Challenge. And you may find it, like I did, different from any satellite qualifier you’ve seen before.

With the FTOPS X Challenge you vie to win as many entries to FTOPS X tournaments as you can. After you win your first entry into a particular event, you will immediately be registered for that event. Simple and familiar enough so far, right?

But now here’s where it gets tricky – and beautiful! Anytime you win another seat into an event that you already have a seat in, you win T$ added to your account, equivalent to the buy-in of the given tournament.

So, for example, if the buy in is $300 + $22, you’d win 322 T$.

Also, be the person to win the most satellite entries to any event and win T$ equal to twice the buy-in. Have the second most wins to any given event and win an extra 1 buy-in worth of T$.

The FTOPS X Satellite Challenge runs Oct. 2 to Nov. 16

FTOPS X Satellite Tournament Challenge

October 23, 2008

FTOPS X is not only full of great guaranteed poker tournaments, but also home of the FTOPS X Satellite Tournament Challenge.  This feature allows players to earn extra T$, or tournament dollars, by winning multiple satellite entries to the same FTOPS X tournament.

For example, if you win five satellites into the $500 + $35 FTOPS X Main Event, you’ll receive a tournament entry and $2,140 in T$.

If you win the most satellite tournaments to a single event you will also receive the T$ equivalent of two more buy-ins.

This satellite challenge has already begun at Full Tilt Poker so some players have a leg up in some events.  For example, at the time of this writing already event #1's leader in the satellite challenge as 52 satellite wins!  However, event #2 only has 4 players in the running and the top spot is held be a player with only 3 satellite wins.

FTOPS X is sure to be one of the biggest FTOPS events of the fall at Full Tilt Poker.

Full Tilt Sponsors 3 WSOP Main Event Finalists

October 23, 2008

In the history of the World Series of Poker, anytime an online poker room was made mention of, odds are it was PokerStars. For it was PokerStars that brought us the 2003 WSOP Main Event winner Chris Moneymaker and 2004 WSOP Main Event winner Greg “Fossilman” Raymer. But this year, it is Full Tilt Poker, not PokerStars, that is making the rounds at all the tables.

On November 9, 3 players at the 2008 WSOP Main Event Final Table won their way into the Main Event through Full Tilt Poker online satellite tournaments.

  • 31-year-old Kelly Kim: In final table seat 8, starts with short stack, holding 2.6 million in chips;
  • 26-year-old Scott Montgomery: In final table seat 4, starts in 3rd place, holding 19.7 million in chips; cashed-in on 3 other 2008 WSOP bracelet events and a WPT Championship;
  • 23-year-old Chris Marquis: In final table seat 2, starts in 8th place, holding 10.2 million in chips; cashed-in on 4 other 2008 WSOP bracelet events

Whoever wins this year’s event will take home approximate $9 million.

Full Tilt Online Poker Series X

October 17, 2008

Just one day after Election Day, November 5, 2008, Full Tilt Poker launches its 10th Full Tilt Online Poker Series, better known as FTOPS X. Consisting of 25 events and boasting over $15 million in guaranteed prizes, the event is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited online poker tournament events each year.

This year’s inaugural event will be a 6-handed No Limit Holdem event with a $200 + $16 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. Though most of the events have buy-ins over $200 (with only 3 requiring less to sit in), Full Tilt is hosting numerous satellite opportunities to win their way into each of the event’s tournaments for free.

There is also a “Bouncebackability” Freeroll available solely to the last player eliminated from each event “before the money” (or “on the bubble”). The winner of this freeroll will receive a free seat in the FTOPS main event.

In addition to its big cash prizes, Full Tilt Poker will also be presenting every player who works their way into the final table of any of the event’s 25 tournaments with a limited edition FTOPS X jacket. All tournament winners will receive, in addition to their cash winnings and the limited edition jacket, a gold FTOPS jersey along with a gold FTOPS avatar to use with their Full Tilt Poker account.

FTOPS X culminates on Sunday, November 16 with the $2.5 million guaranteed main event, a $500 + $35 No Limit Holdem tournament.

Team FullTilt Signs First Blind Poker Pro

October 4, 2008

Full Tilt Poker just signed on its newest, and quite likely its most unique, member of Team Full Tilt in Hal Lubarsky, the first blind person ever to walk away from a WSOP event in the money.

Lubarsky had already been a top rated poker pro in Las Vegas for more than a decade, known to be “one of the best high limit cash game players” in town [says he] before he progressively lost his sight over the ‘80s and ‘90s. Going blind barely slowed down this strident poker player though, as he excelled in both the 2007 and 2008 World Series of Poker main events.

Before being asked to join Team Full Tilt, Lubarsky had already been playing (blind) at 6-handed, multi-tabling ring games at FullTilt Poker to great success.

To play online poker as a blind man, Lubarsky simply uses a program called a Reader that gives him a voice rundown of the action and then, being part-speech recognition software, executes the commands Hal dictates.

Keep that in mind next time someone tells you you don’t have what it takes to participate in some activity, not to mention if you or some other poker lover you know is blind and wishes they too could enjoy playing online poker.
